National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day to honour the Survivors of the Residential School system, their families, and the children who never returned home. Beginning in the early 1800s and continuing for over 150 years, the residential school system forcibly took Indigenous children from their homes to separate them from their family and culture. In 2023, Canada officially recognized the Residential School system as a genocide.
